Project and Contents Description
The AHEC Digital Document System (DDS) aims to provide patron access to non-library finding aids (i.e., those other than the electronic card catalog) to our holdings as well as to a sample of our holdings of the following items: military publications, reports, transcripts of oral histories, photographs, and digital images of museum artifacts. The documents on the site reflect solely our holdings and not those of other repositories. Items displayed are generally in the public domain or similar items to which the Institute and Center have clear title to or use of the intellectual content. Military publications currently in the system include U.S. Army Field Manuals, Technical Manuals, and official histories, although a few examples of other military documents are also included while more may be added at a future time. The time period covered generally coincides with the history of the U.S. Army. While the primary subject area is the history of the U.S. Army, related coverage extends to the history of land warfare, military history generally, and by extension, the history of some foreign military establishments and the history of regions of the world where U.S. Forces have operated or been stationed in. Documents included in the system may be browsed or searched (full text or by metadata).

Additional Information
Given the volume of some documents delivered, use of the DDS is practicable only via broadband delivery systems. Search parameters can be customized by the patron to refine his search. Similarly, the list of search results for photographs and images of museum artifacts can be altered to appear as thumbnail images instead of as text.
