Department of Energy Office of Scientific & Technical Information R&D Reports Digitzation Project
Descriptive Information
Project and Contents Description
The Department of Energy's (DOE) Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI)R&D Reports Digitization Project is a long-term effort to convert roughly 1,000,000 technical reports from paper or microfiche into electronic media. The OSTI collection dates back to the early 1940s and represents the entire technical report output of DOE and its predecessor agencies. Documents digitized thus far cover a time span of 1992 to the present. As part of the ongoing project, microfiche continues to be digitized in reverse chronological order by year. Topics include physics, chemistry, materials, biology, environmental sciences, energy technologies, engineering, computer and information science, renewable energy, and other topics of interest related to DOE's mission. Both preservation and access are the objectives of this project. DOE's full-text R&D literature is highly sought after for its value to the scientific community. Digitized full-text is made available on OSTI's Web products, including the Information Bridge (http://www.osti.gov/bridge) and the Energy Citations Database (http://www.osti.gov/ecd).
